I’ve always been a morning person but I find that even my best intentions sometimes get stale and need a reboot. You might be fighting similar challenges so here’s what worked for me.
Recently I made the commitment to get more regular with my running and the only way that I could make that happen was starting in the early morning. This was partially due to the how dang hot it was last month; there was no way I could get out after work and enjoy the run. I also needed to get ready for my next 70.3 triathlon and the clock was ticking.
The other thing that REALLY helped was that I changed my running route. I know it sounds simple enough and obvious, but I’m kind of of stubborn and it takes a while for me to see things…sometimes😀.
While there are so many options for running around Salt Lake, I just got stuck in a routine, which led to me being a bit bored about wanting to get out. Once I changed the route and the fact that the early morning was quiet and there was a nice breeze, my running desire was recharged and after only a few runs, I fell in love with the commitment to running again.
The other major benefits of getting moving in the morning were being more relaxed at work and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. There wasn’t “something I had to get to” hanging over me after a long day at work.
I also realize that in about 3-4 months the rotation of activities in the morning will need to change as the weather turns and we lose the light. I’ll keep experimenting on what I need to stay fresh. I encourage you to do the same!
